Kährs Sonata Collection
Kährs is dedicated to optimizing the use of raw material, in order to minimise waste and emissions to the environment. Nothing goes to waste.
By pre-cutting the logs that they ship to their factory, Kährs achieves more efficient packaging and use of space – keeping transportation to a minimum and reducing waste material. The parts of the logs that can’t be used in the production of wood floors are converted to biofuel. Some is used to produce energy to heat the Kährs factory.
The rest is sold to a local energy company and used to heat the whole neighborhood. Kährs is, in fact, a major producer of energy – whilst they also strive to reduce the energy that they use. Even the ash from the heating plant is re-used for fertilizing purposes in local forestry operations. During the last few years, Kährs has managed to reduce their use of raw material by 25%, through their dedicated environmental work.
THE COMPANY AT A GLANCE:
“Experience is the best innovator. With more than 150 years in the business, Kährs is one of the oldest manufacturers of wood floors in the world. It is also one of the most innovative.
Kährs is still located in the town of Nybro, deep in the heart of a Swedish forest, where our company was born in 1857. The wood knowledge we have accumulated over the years has been passed down from generation to generation.
We are constantly discussing new ideas how to improve our floors. At work, we are trying, testing and eventually succeeding. But the goal is always the same: how to find ways to make our floors even better looking, stronger, easier to install and more sustainable.
We’re proud that people all over the world appreciate the result. Today, our floors can be found in homes, offices, shops, hotels, concert halls, theaters and sports arenas from Europe and Asia to the Americas.”
