How do I clean tea stains from wool carpeting?

Q: Akanishta Center purchased wool carpet from you in 2006. Yesterday, green tea was accidentally spilled on it. What should we use to try to remove the stains? Thanks for looking into this for us.

A:  One of the most crucial areas of carpet maintenance is removal of spots and spills.  Acting quickly when anything is dropped or spilled, and always having the necessary cleaning materials at hand are of the utmost importance.

Step #1 - Add cold water and blot with white paper towel.
Step #2 - Mix 1 teaspoon of clear dish washing detergent with warm water and apply, then blot.
Step #3 - Apply a small amount of mineral spirits or turpentine, then blot.

If you can purchase WoolClean Spot Remover #1 and #2, these can replace steps 2 and 3 above.   Otherwise, contact a local carpet cleaning company who uses woolsafe approved products.
